Westchester County has closed Coveleigh Club Beach in Rye today and Wednesday after 1.96 inches rain fell on the area over the last 24 hours.
“Beach patrons are advised to avoid the water at these beaches due to potential bacterial contamination from road runoff into drainage outfalls near these beaches,” the county announced Tuesday.
Additional beaches closed Tuesday and Wednesday include: Harbor Island, Beach Point Club, Orienta Beach Club, and Mamaroneck Beach and Yacht Club in Mamaroneck; and Hudson Park Beach, Davenport Club, Greentree Club, and Surf Club in New Rochelle.
All beaches are allowed to reopen Thursday on their own unless additional “significant” rainfall is detected, according to county officials.
