The Westchester County Department of Health shut down Rye’s Coveleigh Club Beach Sunday and Monday, after observing more than 1.8 inches of rainfall in the area.
Excessive rain can cause harmful levels of bacteria to surface from stormwater drains, so the department closed multiple beaches in Westchester to be safe: Harbor Island, Beach Point Club, Mamaroneck Beach & Yacht Club and Orienta Beach Club in Mamaroneck; and the Davenport Club, Greentree Club, Surf Club and Hudson Park Beach in New Rochelle.
If no additional rainfall is detected, all the beaches will reopen on Tuesday.
