The Westchester County Health Department closed the beach at Rye’s Coveleigh Club on Thursday due to excessive rainfall that could potentially contain harmful bacteria.
The closure is part of a broader precautionary measure, protecting the public health and keeping recreational waters safe for swimmers – affecting multiple beaches in Mamaroneck, New Rochelle, and Rye – after 1.21 inches of rain fell in the past 24 hours.
This marks the seventh time this summer that Coveleigh’s beach has been forced to close, and the second time this month.
