Coveleigh Club beach is closed until further notice due to high bacteria levels in the water following heavy rainfall, the Westchester County Health Department announced Tuesday morning.

More than three inches of rain fell across Westchester over the past 24 hours, causing road runoff to contaminate drainage outfalls near the beach, health officials said. The health department cited unsafe water conditions not only in Rye but also at several other Sound Shore beaches in New Rochelle and Mamaroneck.

Health officials said the beaches will reopen once water quality meets New York state safety standards.

This marks the fourth round of beach closures since mid-June and comes the morning after a Flash Flood Warning for Westchester County due to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms on Monday evening.
