There were 326 Rye traffic stops this March, an increase of more than 100 from March 2025, according to data from the Rye Police Department. The number of arrests doubled, from four last March to nine this March.
Leaf blower summonses decreased by 90 percent, from 20 to two this March. Those were the first two summonses issued in 2026.
“I’m going to say compliance by the landscapers has to be one of the reasons,” Lt. Michael Anfuso told The Record, referring to a year-round ban on gas-powered leaf blowers. “The new law starts May 1, and I just got done training the department on the changes.”
Jazmine Chaparro, 34, was arrested on March 9 for allegedly driving with a suspended license, in addition to having multiple suspensions active at once. Jose Santos-Pena, 27, was arrested by Rye police on March 10 on an arrest warrant from out of state, but he was ultimately located in the Rye area.
Benjamin McFadden, 19, was arrested on March 10 for allegedly recklessly operating an e-bike, as well as fleeing from a police officer on the bike when a traffic stop was initiated.
Manuel Pena, 29, was arrested on March 11 for allegedly driving a vehicle with a suspended or revoked license.
Jose Gonzalez, 24, was arrested on March 20 for allegedly stealing a $75,000 BMW in a Facebook Marketplace transaction by paying for the car with a fraudulent cashier’s check. Nelson Vizhco, 49, was arrested on March 24 for allegedly missing his court date after being released from custody on a criminal case.
Dancarli Pascual, 29, was arrested on March 24 for illegal possession of a weapon as well as driving with a suspended license. Lastly, Kyle Folkes, 27, was arrested in Rye on March 31 for the alleged possession of the geodes stolen from Rye Art Center the week prior.
City code complaints increased by 27 percent, while calls for service only increased by 4 percent compared to last March. DWI arrests and use of force incidents remained at zero for both years, while one pursuit took place this March and one last March.
