Police activity rose in nearly every category this January compared to the same period in 2024, with a noticeable uptick in calls for service.

Police made three arrests in January, compared to two during January 2024 — a 50 percent increase year over year, monthly police department data shows.

The first two individuals arrested, on Jan. 6 and Jan. 22, were taken into custody for driving without valid drivers licenses, according to Police Lt. Detective Michael Anfuso. Misdemeanors were issued for the two traffic violations.

Rye police also arrested Amie Faye on Jan. 29, who was charged with allegedly writing $10,000 in checks from the account of a 95-year-old woman she was caring for, a felony. Faye is due in court on Feb. 4.

But January’s arrest totals saw a 43 percent decrease compared to December 2024, when seven suspects were taken into custody.

Total calls for service grew by 55 percent in January, with 2,506 calls this year compared to 1,616 calls in January 2024. Traffic stops also increased, with 208 calls last month up from 198 last January, constituting an uptick of 5 percent, data shows.

While there were 18 city code complaints in January — the same amount year over year — the number of summonses increased by six compared to January 2024. There was one less leaf blower complaint this January and no summonses issued, down from three summonses issued at the same time last year.

Rye police were not involved in any use of force incidents in January, a decrease from the two incidents in December. The department constitutes use of force as ranging from an officer threatening to draw their weapon to physically restraining an individual, according to Anfuso.

There were no DWI arrests last month.
