Leaf blower summonses issued in June saw the greatest percentage jump yet in 2025, along with an increase in traffic stops and city code complaints, Rye PD data shows.
Police issued 28 summonses for leaf blower violations in June, skyrocketed (833 percent) from the three summonses they issued in June of last year.
The spike in summonses year-over-year has been an ongoing trend for months, with March summonses increasing by 14, April summonses up by 36, and May summonses rising by 25, according to police data. Lt. Michael Anfuso has attributed the rise in summonses this year to increased police overtime dedicated to focusing on city code complaints.
There was also a 51 percent increase in traffic stops this June, from 151 to 228, year-over-year data shows.
Four people were arrested this June, up from the three taken into custody over the same period last year, according to police statistics.
James Wilson, a New Rochelle man, was arrested for driving at high speeds and tearing up a field at Rye Recreation’s property on June 16. A few days later, John Chin, 63, from Yonkers, was arrested for flashing what appeared to be a handgun during a road rage incident on June 20.
Rye police did not divulge details about the other two arrests this June.
Calls for service increased by 10 percent this June, up 259 from the 2,576 calls Rye PD received last June.
DWI arrests and pursuits remained stagnant year-over-year at zero, departmental stats show, while there was one use of force incident in June compared to zero at the same time in 2024.
