Cruising to First

Conditions were hot and dusty (better than cold and rainy) for the Mercer Lake Sprints regatta, April 21. With a head-on view of the Princeton Boathouse, 45 Rye High rowers cruised through ten races in West Windsor, New Jersey. Sixty-one teams participated in the daylong affair, including crews from Florida, California, and London.

Winning first place for Rye was the boys’ “2V4+”, or for those who don’t know crew lingo, the 2nd Varsity 4 with a coxswain, one oar per rower. With Reid Esler as cox, Dan Sundaram, Connor Antico, Alex Martin, and Max Bresolin cruised to first.

Bad weather on March 31 forced the cancellation of The Greenwich Invitational, so this was the first time out for the team. RHS Crew has five more regattas, including the May 11-13 NY State HS Championships in Saratoga Springs. Qualifying boats may race in late May in Philadelphia and Camden, and in June at the US Rowing Youth Nationals in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Show your support for the team at a RHS Crew Tag Sale Saturday, May 19.
