State police say eight trash bags filled with dead animals were found near an interstate junction in Rye on Monday.
The incident is similar to the discovery three months ago of 35 dead animals in trash bags a few miles south in Harrison.
State Police Investigator Joseph Becerra said today that he had spoken with Westchester County police and the SPCA to look into possible links between this week’s case and the one in April.
The bags were found along a concrete barricade along a ramp connecting Interstates 95 and 287. Becerra said police would like to talk to any witnesses who might have seen the bags being dumped.
Becerra said some of the animals found Monday in Rye by Thruway Authority workers were dogs and cats. Decomposition made it hard to tell what the other animals were, when they had been dumped, or how many were disposed there, police said
The bags found in April along the Hutchinson River Parkway in Harrison held dogs, cats, and a lizard that had been euthanized. A Bronx veterinarian was charged in that case.
