It was not a perfect performance for the Garnets on Sunday.
Their 14 points were the fewest the team has scored in a game in more than two years, and the offense failed to record a single play of more than 35 yards. Still, Rye continued its winning ways with a 14-0 win over Eastchester, their ninth straight against the Eagles.
The defense again stole the show pitching its second straight shutout — something the Garnets haven’t done since 2006.
Leading the charge was senior captain Andrew Wilmarth, who led the team in tackles and recorded a blocked punt.
“It was about getting locked in beforehand,” said Wilmarth about the key to his success. “With the playoffs coming up, we need to get prepared by watching film and getting into the flow of things. I hope to set an example by doing that, and then executing on the field.”
The Garnets jumped out to a 7-0 lead after quarterback Carson Miller found senior running back Ty Ramachandran in the left corner of the end zone for his first career reception. With senior captain Chris Iuliano in concussion protocol for the next two weeks, Ramachandran will take the bulk of the carries for the Garnets.
Rye scored again early in the second quarter on a 34-yard run from Carson Miller to extend the lead to 14-0. Miller now has 18 touchdowns this season — more than any other quarterback in Section 1.

The Garnets kept Eastchester off the board despite multiple trips into Rye territory, in large part due to Wilmarth securing fourth down tackles to stall back-to-back Eagles’ drives. Then Junior Henry Shoemaker closed out the half by grabbing an interception with the Garnets holding onto 14-0 lead.
It was a quiet second half offensively as the Garnets and Eagles failed to record a scoring drive over the final 24 minutes, marking the first time the Garnets have had a scoreless half all season. Despite the lack of offensive production, the stingy defense continued to stymie the Eagles thanks to sacks from seniors Connor Brady and Jake Kessner, along with an interception from senior captain Archer Fenton.
Coach Dino Garr was pleased with the defense performance, but expressed the need for his players to make adjustments in order for the team to continue moving in the right direction.

“Back-to-back shutouts, the defense did a great job for us … but I thought we didn’t do the job as well as we could have. Teams are preparing for us, they’re taking away the stuff we’ve been doing well, it just means we have to make good adjustments too,” he said.
The Garnets next travel to Yorktown (4-2) — their toughest conference opponent to date — next Friday. Their last meeting against Yorktown was back in 2022 when Rye edged them by one point.
