Because of senior year commitments leading up to graduation, Myla Bisceglia wasn’t able to compete in the girls state golf tournament.

Her younger brother, sophomore Derek Bisceglia, represented the family well in the boys state tourament.

Derek shot an 84 in round 1 on Sunday and improved to a 79 the next day in round 2, for a total score of 163. Competing against a field largely made up of upperclassmen, Bisceglia finished 63rd in his state tournament debut. On a challenging course at Mill Creek Golf Club in Churchville, just four of the state’s best high school golfers were able to finish under par.

As one of nine golfers from Section 1 at the state meet, Bisceglia’s second-day score contributed to the Section 1 team’s total. Section 1, which includes schools located in Westchester, Dutchess, Putnam, and Rockland counties, finished third as a team in the boys tournament, shooting +62 over two rounds.

Another sophomore, Yorktown’s Joe Carey, led Section 1 and tied for second in the state individually with a 4-under 138.

Jamesville-DeWitt senior Jackson Saroney won the individual state title by six strokes, shooting a 10-under 132. The Penn State golf commit set a record for the lowest 36-hole score in NYSPHSAA golf history, leading Section 3 to a team title by 14 strokes.
