The Rye Record is happy to announce a new monthly column, “Did You Know,” brought to you by the City of Rye Finance Committee. The information may surprise you; we hope it elicits lots of good conversation.

 

1) In 2012, the City’s population count was reported to be 15,834, compared to 15,090 in 2002.

 

2) The median home, with a market value of approximately $1,440,000 and assessed at $26,200, saw an annual tax increase of approximately $86.16 in 2012.

 

3) The total number of full-time equivalent employees working for the City of Rye in 2012 was 144, compared to 173 in 2003.

 

4) The total number of paid firefighters in 2012 was 17, aided by 170 volunteer firefighters.

 

5) The City maintains 71 miles of streets and roads, 53 miles of sanitary sewer lines, 6 pump stations, and 30 miles of storm drains within the borders of its six square miles.

 

6) Federal aid and State emergency disaster aid received in 2012 was $628,032, reflecting FEMA payments to reimburse expenses related to Hurricane Irene and Super Storm Sandy.

 

7) The 2013 tax rate is $148.91 per $1,000 assessed valuation, a 2.7% increase over the 2012 tax rate.

 

8) License and permit revenue increased $367,917 (18.9%) from $1,943,221 in 2011 to $2,311,138 in 2012, which was attributed predominantly to increases in the number of building permits issued.

 

9) Revenues budgeted in 2013 (including property taxes of $20,563,240) are $30.9 million, up $1,000,000 or 3.3% from the 2012 adopted Budget of $29.9 million.

 

10) Expenditures (including capital in 2013 – no budgeted capital in 2012) are $31.7 million, up $1.8 million or 6% from the 2012 adopted Budget of $ 29.9 million.
