The Rye City Board of Education has appointed Nick Clair as Rye Middle School’s new principal.

His appointment came after a weeks-long search by new Rye City School District Superintendent Patricia Murray and the Board. Before his permanent appointment, Clair served as Rye Middle School’s interim principal.

“Along with the recommendation of our committee, the Board and I strongly believe that Mr. Clair is the right person to help the district continue to meet the goal of developing an educational program at RMS that advances the critical skills necessary for all learners to achieve success,” Murray said Wednesday.

Clair came to Rye in 2022 as the district’s middle school and high school instructional coach, and eventually became an assistant principal at Rye Middle School in 2024.

Before coming to Rye, Clair held an administrator internship at F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY. He started as a high school mathematics teacher at F.D. Roosevelt and then at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua.

He has his undergraduate degree in mathematics education from Hartwick College, a master’s in curriculum, instruction, and assessment from Walden University, and a Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in administration from Stony Brook University.
