Elizabeth Krondes Welling, a resident of St. Augustine, Fla. since 1984, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2017.
Born in New Rochelle in 1926, Dolly, as she was known, subsequently lived in Rye. She and her husband Oscar J. Welling retired to St. Augustine, where they soon became active members of the community.
An avid golfer, she regularly met with her “Ponce ladies” circle of friends. She was an active participant in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox parish and a member of the Ladies Philoptochos. She was a true “Red Hat Lady” in every sense of the term who loved playing bridge and slots with her wide array of loyal friends.
Among her many extraordinary qualities was the ability to make friends easily and she had a smile that would light up a room. She will be widely missed by her family for whom she had everlasting and unconditional love and compassion.
Dolly and Oscar Welling were married for almost fifty years. He predeceased her, as did their son John and her siblings James and Christina.
She is survived by her daughter, Christine Pumphrey and her husband David; daughter-in-law Leocadie Robertson; grandchildren, Brock Pumphrey, Lee Welling, Taylor Esdale, John Welling, and Madison Pumphrey; and four great-grandchildren. A fifth great-grandson is expected in September.
A funeral was held August 16 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in St. Augustine. Donations in Dolly Welling’s memory may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church or the American Diabetes Association.
