An evening of family fun is in store on Thursday, July 14 on the Great Lawn at Rye Town Park, starting at 7 p.m. with the Magic of David Rosenstein.
He uses his humor and charm to make every child feel like a magician as they scream the magic world at the top of their lungs.
At about 8:30 p.m., just before dark the movie “Because of Winn Dixie” will start.
Based on the best-selling book by Kate DiCamillo, the 2005 movie tells the story of a lonely young girl who adopts an orphaned dog she names Winn-Dixie (for the supermarket where she found him).
The bond between the girl and her special companion brings together the people in a small Florida town and heals her own troubled relationship with her father.
The movie stars 10 year-old AnnaSophia Robb as the lonely girl, Jeff Daniels as her father, Eva Marie Saint as the librarian, Cicely Tyson, as a blind woman who teaches the girl what it means to truly see, and singer-songwriter Dave Matthews as a troubled but kind pet store manager.
The title role of Winn-Dixie was played by two large, lovable Picardy Shepherds.
The running time is 106 minutes. Admission for the Magic Show and Movie is free. Parking is $2.
People should bring their own blankets or lawn chairs, and mosquito repellant, just in case. For more information, phone 967-0965.
The Magic Show is sponsored by the Dalila Namy State Farm Insurance Office in Port Chester. The Outdoor Movie is sponsored by Carpet Trends of Rye.
