Edward A. Bugniazet Jr., a beloved father, grandfather, and husband, passed away peacefully on Nov. 16, 2024, at the age of 89, surrounded by his cherished family.
Born on Feb. 21, 1935, in White Plains, New York, Ed was the son of Edward and Elizabeth A. Bugniazet Sr. of Rye, New York. A lifelong resident of Rye, Ed attended Resurrection Grammar School, Iona Prep, and Fordham University. After graduating from Fordham in 1957, he proudly served his country as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Pendleton, California.
On Dec. 21, 1957, Edward married Anne Malesardi of Eastchester, New York. Their loving marriage spanned 61 years until Anne’s passing in 2019. Together, they enjoyed their golden years living in Naples, Florida, and Greenwich, Connecticut.
Ed’s life was defined by remarkable achievements, but his most enduring legacy was his character.
A gifted athlete, he was inducted into multiple Halls of Fame for his nationally recognized accomplishments in basketball. Known for his unmatched scoring ability, he famously scored a record-breaking 60 points in one game while at Iona Prep, followed two days later by a 42-point performance. These feats set records in Westchester County and New York state that stood for many years. As a three-year starter at Fordham University, he led his team to national rankings and an NIT bid, cementing his athletic legacy.
Ed’s larger-than-life personality was legendary. A masterful storyteller, he could bring down the house with his repertoire of jokes, lovingly retold to his adoring “fans.” Guided by his Catholic faith and an unwavering moral compass, Ed had a rare gift for making everyone he met feel truly special.
Following his military service, Edward built a distinguished career as a Wall Street executive, where his leadership skills and affable personality earned him great success and respect in his field.
An avid golfer, Ed spent over 50 years as a distinguished member of Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York where he treasured playing alongside family and friends.
Edward is survived by his daughter, Susan Joyce of Rye; his sons, Edward A. Bugniazet III (Sheila) of Harrison and Craig Bugniazet of Greenwich; nine grandchildren: Kevin, Colin, Megan, Molly, Teddy, Margo, Mark, Danny, and Michael; and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Miles. He was predeceased by his siblings, James and Joseph Bugniazet. Ed’s enduring love, wisdom, and generosity will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his family and friends.
Ed’s life will be celebrated with a visitation on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. at the William Graham Funeral Home in Rye, New York. A funeral Mass will be held the following day, Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Resurrection Church, also in Rye.
