Rye softball won its first game of the season, jumping out to an eight-run lead in the first inning and beating Pelham 13-5 on Saturday.

Sisters Penelope Gilmore and Georgina Gilmore each hit a home run and drove in three runs apiece. Eighth grader Georgina Gilmore and sophomore Reese McGill both went 3-for-4 at the plate, and senior Ava Rollano also had a multi-hit game.

In addition to her big day at the plate, junior Penelope Gilmore pitched all seven innings, earning the win while allowing five hits and striking out six.

In the first inning, McGill, Rollano, and Georgina Gilmore all singled. The eight-run inning was aided by five walks and a hit batter.

Pelham scored two in the bottom of the first, then three in the second to cut the deficit to 8-5, but Penelope Gilmore shut the Pelicans out the rest of the way. She had an RBI sac fly in Rye’s two-run third inning, then Georgina Gilmore drove in two more runs with a fourth-inning home run.

Penelope Gilmore hit a solo shot in the fifth inning for the final run of the game.

Rye (1-2) hosts Albertus Magnus in its home opener Monday, then plays at Eastchester on Wednesday before returning home to play Harrison on Thursday.
