The cause of a Friday house fire on Loder Street in Rye was due to an electrical issue, city and county officials have determined.
Rye and Rye Brook fire personnel responded to 20 Loder St. around 3:45 p.m. on Jan. 24 to find the dining room of the house was on fire and emitting “heavy smoke” from the floorboards above. Firefighters worked to remove a section of the ceiling to extinguish the blaze, the Rye Fire Department said.
Fire personnel from neighboring Harrison also responded to supply officials with more water supply – as well as the Westchester County Cause and Origin team and the Rye Building Department to investigate the cause of the blaze.
The home – a 3,900 square-foot, four bedroom/four bathroom house – is worth an estimated $2.7 million, according to Zillow. The Rye Fire Department said the home was undergoing renovation work at the time of the blaze, and that no injuries were reported.
Of the 14 emergency fire calls over the past 90 days, three have required extinguishing from the Rye Fire Department, Captain Clyde Pitts said. One of the most recent was another electrical fire in a Greenhaven cottage on Dec. 8.
Correction: This story was updated at 1:05 p.m. on Jan. 29 to specify that Rye Brook area firefighters assisted in the response.
