Emmet Carroll and Brendan Lavelle Earn All-American Honors
By Mitch Silver
U.S. Lacrosse this week named rising Rye High seniors Emmet Carroll and Brendan Lavelle to its All-American teams. Carroll earned All-Section status earlier this month for his play in goal while Lavelle was chosen for his efforts as a long-stick midfielder for Head Coach Steve Lennon’s Garnets.
In addition, Carroll, rising sophomore Caden Whaling, and Rye Country Day’s senior-to-be Liam McLane were nominated to play in the Under Armour All-American Underclass Tournament to be played this week in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins University.
Eight of the Garnets who helped take their team to the Class C State semifinals were named to the All-League team. In addition to Carroll, Lavelle, and Whaling, they include graduating defensemen Ellis Tucci and Pat Langer and midfielder Sam Poole; rising senior Tommy DeCaro at attack, and sophomore-to-be defender Aidan Cunningham.
Down the road in Greenhaven, Rye Neck’s return to varsity play saw five Panther stalwarts earn All-League honors in Class D. They are John Bianchini in goal, Jonathan Casas and Tyler Simon on defense, and midfielders Justin Leydon and Max Thurer.
