Coming off a one-point loss to one of the best girls lacrosse programs in Florida, Rye lost by the same margin Tuesday against a top team from Connecticut.
Wilton won 7-6, rallying from a 5-0 deficit to shock the Garnets. Rye still led 6-2 with three minutes left in the third quarter, but could only watch as the Warriors scored the game’s final five goals for the win.
Junior Blake Sasse and senior Beau Whaling scored two goals apiece for the Garnets, who also got scores from junior Paloma Pepper and senior Annie Toulouse.
After two dominant wins against New York competition, the Garnets (2-2) have now suffered narrow defeats to American Heritage, the 2021, 2023, and 2024 Florida state champions, and Wilton, which lost in double overtime of the Connecticut state semifinals a season ago.
The Garnets will get another shot against a Connecticut lacrosse powerhouse in their next game. Rye plays at 11 a.m. Saturday at Darien, which won the 20th state championship in program history last year.
