Florence J. Scenna of Port Chester, N.Y., died peacefully on November 30, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was 87. A beloved mother and grandmother, she dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. She was a true matriarch and leaves behind a legacy of love.
Born in Port Chester on September 12, 1935, she was the daughter of Mary Morano and Joseph Donato.
She worked various jobs throughout her lifetime, from Empire Brushworks to the Rye Shoe Store, and quickly became family to all who knew her in all walks of life.
An avid New York Yankees fan, she watched every inning of every game religiously, sometimes watching the encore the same night just to make sure she didn’t miss anything. Many will also remember her infamous meatballs and pots of sauce on Sundays.
Mrs. Scenna is survived by her children, Anthony, Marianne, Mark (Teresa), Charlene, Christine (Kevin); her daughter-in-law Enza; her grandchildren, Steven, Olivia, Nicholas, Mark, Kevin, Anthony, and Kevin (Miranda); and her great-granddaughter Emersyn. She was predeceased by her son, Steven Scenna.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated December 5 at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye.
Donations in Florence Scenna’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
