Charlotte Thompson Hutton passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, at her home in Seattle. She was 105 years old.
Charlotte spent 30 years as a resident of Greenwich, Conn., and considered both Seattle and Greenwich to be her homes.
Charlotte always had a gracious smile for others and loved socializing by the pool, over meals or at one of her favorite clubs, often sporting one of her cherished Hermes scarves.
Charlotte had a special zest for life and took particular joy in beautiful things, as evidenced in her style and dress. She relished time with her friends and family, and typically started each conversation with, “How are you, darling?”
She was born Charlotte Ann Thompson in 1921, in Tacoma, Wash. Known to her classmates as “CAT,” she graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma and became a lover of cats.
Charlotte attended the University of Washington, where she was a member of Pi Phi sorority, and graduated with the distinction of Phi Beta Kappa in English. Throughout her life, she figured any day was better with a great book on hand.
Charlotte was married to Robert W. Hutton from 1944 until his passing in 2009. Charlotte and Bob shared a life filled with a diverse set of experiences, including extensive international travels. Following World War II, in their early married years, they lived quietly in Bellingham, Wash., where they raised two children, Ann and Tom.
The family enjoyed boating in the San Juan and Canadian Islands. They lived in Seattle from 1964 to 1968, where Char was a dedicated member of the Seattle Garden Club, the Junior League, and the Seattle Tennis Club.
In 1968, Charlotte and Bob moved their family to Rye and subsequently Greenwich, where Charlotte established deep bonds with her friends and neighbors. Charlotte was a favorite among the young men and women who sailed aboard the family’s racing sailboats. She was a member of the Rye Twig and the Rye Garden Club, and served as a selectwoman in the Greenwich town government.
Charlotte is survived by her two children, Ann Hutton of Friday Harbor, Wash., and Tom Hutton (Wende) of Atherton, Calif.; and her grandchildren, Meghan Hutton-Conley and Brianna Hutton-Conley; Rachel Hutton McKenzie (Dustin) and Cameron Hutton (Katie).
Her family and friends have been blessed by many years of her loving company, and will miss her, dearly.
