After nearly two weeks on the road, the Rye baseball team returned to their home turf Monday and shut out Bronxville 3-0.

Junior catcher Jackson Pineault went 2-for-3 with an RBI to help the Garnets win their closest matchup since a 7-4 loss to Mamaroneck on April 10. Every game since then had been decided by 10-plus runs.

Rye is 2-0 since returning from spring training last week in Orlando, including a 12-0 win over Hendrick Hudson on Saturday. The team now boasts a 6-3 record with just three weeks left in the regular season and is 3-1 at home.

The Garnets got on the board early in the first inning with a single from Pineault. The contest was a standstill through three innings until Rye tallied again in the fifth and sixth, for the final score of 3-0.

In addition to Pineault, sophomore left fielder Luke Ontaneda is credited with one run. Junior shortstop Nolan Hutson single-handedly earned the third run by reaching first base on an error, stealing both second and third base, and then scoring on another error by Bronxville catcher Max Zarba.

Freshman pitcher Clayton McCarthy got the win for Rye, pitching the full seven innings. Through 25 batters faced, McCarthy gave up no runs, two hits, one walk and had four strikeouts. Bronxville’s two hits were collected by Sam Dicker and Jake Donnelly.

Rye will head to Bronxville for a rematch Wednesday, then host Pelham on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in both contests.
