Rye High’s boys golf team finished the regular season at 13-3, and began Sectional play on Monday at Metropolis Country Club.
The Garnets hosted Rye Country Day on May 13 at Rye Golf Club, besting the Wildcats, 204-212.
Rye Country Day’s Theo Humphrey was the medalist of the day with a 35, or one under par. Thomas Henderson was the top scorer for Rye with a 38. The next top scorers were Rye’s Henry Bailey and James McHugh, who both shot 40.
RHS finished the season with a League record of 9-1, tying for first with Fox Lane.
Qualifying for Sectionals were Bailey and Henderson, both seniors, and McHugh, a freshman.
McHugh was named All-Section after shooting rounds of 81 and 76.
Rye Country Day finished its season at 8-6, a big improvement over last year’s 4-8 record. The Wildcats started State competition on Wednesday.
Garnet Girls Runner-up in League
Rye High girls’ golf team placed second in the League with a 12-2 record. Both losses were to Ursuline.
In regular season play, Alexis Hios finished number one of all the girls in the section with a differential of 3.01. Second place was a girl from Yonkers with a differential of 4.1.
The differential is the basis for rankings. It takes into account difficulty of a course and scores and is based on the season averages of play.
The girls began Sectional playoffs Tuesday at Beekman Golf Course. Qualifying were: Erin O’Brien, Christiana Villani, Alex Ostan, Frida Henningsson, and Hios, the team’s captain.
Advancing to a second day of Sectional play on May 29 at Whippoorwill Country Club are Villani, Henningsson, and Hios.
Hios has an eight-stroke lead gong into the second round, after scoring a 71. Henningsson tied for fifth place with a score of 80 and Villani shot 103 which earned her 20th place.
