After its win over Fox Lane this week, the Rye girls’ soccer team is on the upswing. The 4-2 victory on Tuesday brought the Garnets’ season record to 8-3-2.
The girls’ up-and-down ride began October 5 with a 3-0 win over Arlington — ranked No. 1 among all schools by MSGVarsity.com
Senior tri-captain Vania Ludman scored a hat trick; her goals were assisted by different players: Rachel Egan, tri-captain Audrey Love and Cristina Benincasa.
RHS Coach Rich Savage was thrilled. “Arlington was a highly favored to win the match, ranked number one of all schools and has enrollment more than double that of Rye,’’ he said. “The size and ranking did not intimidate our team, and we played as an entire unit. From the bench to the field, we were an entire team.”
Last week, Rye lost 3-0 to Pearl River before tying Harrison 1-1. The week ended with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss in overtime to Horace Greeley. The Garnets had one League game remaining, against Byram Hills, post-deadline.
