Since the start of last season, the Rye Garnets have created a standard template for success — score early and often.
On Friday, Rye rattled off 35 points in the first half and routed Clarkstown North 43-6 for their 13th straight win.
The Garnets have scored 30 or more points in each of their first three games this season, and have outscored opponents 122-49. The team has now won 37 of their last 40 league games, and along with Somers are the only teams in Section 1 Class A yet to lose this year.
Friday’s game began in the same fashion as last week, with a three-and-out from the stingy Garnets D setting up a first quarter scoring drive for quarterback Carson Miller and the offense.
Miller found senior captain Chris Iuliano to open the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown pass. The signal caller then hit junior Henry Shoemaker with a 78-yard pass on the next possession to give the Garnets a quick 14-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Iuliano ran into the end zone for his second touchdown, and the 30th of his Garnet career.
Miller would find Archer Fenton on a 22-yard pass midway through the second quarter to push the lead to 28-0.
The Garnets took a 29-point lead into the half after a receiving touchdown by senior captain Jake Kessner.
Kessner, who’s been a starter on offense the last three seasons, attributes the Garnets scoring potency this year to the numerous weapons that have made an impact on offense.
“We have so many playmakers that it’s hard for defenses to be able to defend all of our threats,” he said.
In the second half the Rye defense showcased its prowess, holding the Rams scoreless for the final 24 minutes. The team’s four leading tacklers — senior Gage Sasse (8), senior Archie Berkery (8), senior captain Andrew Wilmarth (7), and junior Nigel Strazzini (6) — each set single-game personal bests.
Junior Sebastian Lewis also recorded his first career interception.
With the season approaching the midway point, Coach Dino Garr kept things in perspective following the win, but was quick to credit all the players who made their impact felt Friday.
“We’ve got to cut down on some mistakes, but overall it was a great effort by everybody, a good team effort with a lot of people getting in there and doing their job,” Garr said.
The Garnets will hit the road and head to Rockland Friday for the second time this season, as they prepare to battle Nyack.
