There is much more than pride on the line Saturday when the Garnets host the Harrison Huskies at home for the 81st clash in the football rivalry. Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m. Rye is gunning for its 10th consecutive win, aiming to move a notch closer to evening up the lifetime win-loss record that dates back to the Great Depression. As it stands, Harrison leads the series 41-37-3.
RHS Coach Dino Garr called last year’s 17-7 win his finest in the rivalry; quarterback Andrew Livingston, now a sophomore, threw two touchdown passes. The prior year’s 21-20 win, meanwhile, has become legend in the series. Harrison led 20-13 with two minutes left in the 2010 classic.
Before “The Game,” there will be an 11 a.m. plaza dedication ceremony honoring the late Ben Bedini behind the Nugent Stadium bleachers. Bedini was RHS Athletic Director and Head Football Coach from 1954 to 1962, amassing a record of 59-5. Coach Bedini died in 2008. In remembrance of his legacy, private funds were raised to build Ben Bedini Plaza.
