In their second matchup of the season, the Rye Country Day’s Girls’ Golf team beat School of the Holy Child at home May 11. The score was 4½ to ½. A week earlier, the Wildcats came out on top 3-2.
Gryphon senior co-captain Jasmine Kitahara won 4 and 3 against Claire Monahan. This is Kitahara’s fifth and final year on the team, the last three years as the No. 1 player. She ended the regular season with a 5-2-1 record.
In the No. 2 spot, Wildcat Mackenzie Martin scored a draw with Gryphon Tory Huchro. Sammie Bobman one-upped Bridget Stanton. Martina Cappellano beat Katie Shultis 4 and 3, and Reilly McManus outscored Maddie Lauth by one shot.
While Coach Kaori McManus said he’s sorry to see Kitahara leave, he is excited about this season’s promising new golfers — Bobman, who placed third in the May 9 New England Independent School Tournament, and eighth grader Elizabeth Friedberg who placed fourth.
The Wildcats finished the season with an overall record of 5-2-2, and were 3-1-2 in the FAA League.
