Having a car and being able to go somewhere, either spur of the moment or for a scheduled appointment is a freedom most people of driving age enjoy. Plus, a car is a necessity if you live in the suburbs and value your independence. For older adults who have to give up driving, losing their driving privileges often leads to to anger, frustration, and isolation.
That’s when SPRYE can step in, restoring a sense of independence and connection to the community.
Members of SPRYE and their families often express a sense of relief knowing that help is just a phone call away. The volunteers who provide transportation to SPRYE members in Harrison, Port Chester, Rye, and Rye Brook often go the extra mile, assisting with grocery shopping and accompanying members to their medical appointments.
Rides are just one of the many services offered as part of membership. Handyman help, referrals to reliable service providers, technology aid, friendly visits, and a full calendar of social and educational programs are all offered under SPRYE’s umbrella of services to help older adults in the community remain safely and independently in their homes while making their own choices about how they want to live their lives, and staying connected to a caring community.
What better way to show your appreciation for an older adult in your life than by giving a Father’s Day gift membership to SPRYE. Families receive peace of mind and members can enjoy satisfying and fruitful lives without having to give up their homes.
