At their March meeting, the Ruth Lyon Bush Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution proudly announced the DAR Good Citizen winner. Madeline Rae Kinker, a Rye High senior, was recognized and presented with a DAR Good Citizen pin, certificate, I.D. card, and monetary award.
Madeleine has had an exemplary high school career: Class President all four years, AP and RHS Scholar, a member of the National Honor and National Music Honor societies, recipient of departmental awards in physics and AP Psychology, Orchestra co-President, and Captain and goalie of the Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team.
Rye High School guidance counselors selected Madeleine, who demonstrated, in an outstanding way, the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.
Upon her selection she wrote an essay, administered under the supervision of a DAR member, with no prior knowledge of the essay title. Within the two-hour time limit and without the use of reference materials, Madeleine shared her views on “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It: Describe the Freedoms and Responsibilities of a Good Citizen”.
In the fall, Madeleine is headed for Middlebury College.
