In the middle of residential Greenhaven, visitors were treated recently to the creative inspiration of 19 artists, many local to our community.
As one visitor described the April 28 event, it felt like an escape, either to a contemporary art museum, a wellness retreat, or a European salon — or maybe equal parts all of the above. Many of the artists incorporated their international backgrounds into the work they created, lending a multicultural feel to the event.
Cécile Roberfroid, one of the seven founders of the group, Greenhaven Artists, said they were extremely pleased with the turnout and community support. The common spaces in each of the four houses, while transformed into art galleries, retained the inviting warmth of a home. Snacks and beverages provided by event sponsor Denise Gutman-Tenner of Julia B. Fee/Sotheby’s contributed to the casual conversation and relaxed feel of the event.
The group’s first open studio event in December featured a much smaller number of artists, and the goal for this event was to expand on that and turn it into something that Greenhaven Artists can do year after year. It was a beautiful spring day, and because the studios were open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the more than 200 attendees were able to explore at a relaxed pace and take in all the art.
There were presentations throughout the day, including a reading from a novelist who lives in the neighborhood and a yoga session. For those who missed the event and are interested in seeing the work of the participating artists, visit GreenhavenArtists.com.
