A group of 33 student-athletes from Rye High School committed to continue their athletic journeys at the collegiate level during a letter of intent signing ceremony. Surrounded by administrators, teachers, family, and teammates, the students were recognized for their dedication to athletics and academics.
“These commitments are a testament to all of the hard work they’ve put into their craft,” said Principal Andrew Hara, “as well as the families, friends, and coaches who have supported them every step of the way.”
Lacrosse drew the most commitments from the Class of 2026, with nine. Three members of the state champion boys team will play collegiately, along with six members from the Garnet girls team.
Rowing, rugby, and soccer each had four college commits. Goalkeeper Tessa Labovitz and defender Clare Nemsick, who anchored the back line of the undefeated state champion girls soccer team, will both continue their playing careers. Nemsick will play two sports at Bucknell next year, also suiting up for the Bison lacrosse team in the spring.
Five schools are landing multiple Garnet student-athletes. Carson Miller, Henry Shoemaker, and Nigel Strazzini, who teamed up for Rye’s state champion football and boys lacrosse teams, are all Harvard-bound. Miller and Strazzini will play lacrosse, while Shoemaker will play football.
Fairfield, Middlebury, Washington & Lee, and the University of Chicago each signed two grads from Rye’s historically successful Class of 2026.
“A huge shoutout to our award-winning Athletic Director Susan Reid, who has steadily grown Rye athletics into the incredible program that it is across all sports,” Hara said.
