It’s never too early to celebrate a graduation. Over 200 children participated in Moving Up ceremonies at The Rye Arts Center last month, acknowledging their yearlong participation in the RAC’s arts education and enrichment program designed exclusively for pre-K children.
It’s never too early to celebrate a graduation. Over 200 children participated in Moving Up ceremonies at The Rye Arts Center last month, acknowledging their yearlong participation in the RAC’s arts education and enrichment program designed exclusively for pre-K children.
“Early literacy and kindergarten readiness skills are nurtured through the arts,” says Anne Fumasoli, Music School and Public Outreach Director. “Through music, singing, painting drawing, mixed media art, clay and sculpting, storytelling, creative movement and dance, these littlest learners develop cognitive and early language skills, self-expression, and creativity,” she explains.
Head Start is made possible through the generosity of Robert R. Wiener, WESTCOP, and Rob and Laurie Platek. The Rye Arts Center Head Start arts education program has provided Port Chester’s youngest and most economically disadvantaged residents with enrichment opportunities for over 30 years. Laurie Platek, a longtime program supporter, and Rye City Council member Julie Killian distributed diplomas to the Head Start students in May.
Children from local area nursery schools ‘extend their day’ with Half-Day for Half-Pints, an arts education program designed to complement a morning or afternoon nursery school session or be a standalone arts immersion experience for a pre-K child.
