Helping a Dream in Africa

On a Wednesday night in mid-summer, more than 100 women showed up for a convivial fundraiser at the Milton Road home of Caroline Walker. The beneficiary was Her Best Foot Forward, a nonprofit that sells beaded slipknot bracelets, leather sandals, and pet collars as well as upcycled jean jackets.

These casual, colorful accessories are made by women artisans in East Africa. In addition to supporting the artisan team, one hundred percent of the profits go to a menstrual hygiene pad production facility and distribution program that helps girls stay in school with dignity.

More than $5,000 was raised for that mission at the Sip & Shop co-hosted by a few good women in Rye.
