Rye High School freshmen in Mr. Soto’s digital photography class were given an important assignment over spring break: create original artwork for the 2012 Distracted Walking Poster Contest.
Entries had to address one or more safety messages: never cross the street while on the phone, texting, or wearing headphones; don’t push or shove while walking with friends; cross at crosswalks; watch out when crossing, etc.
The posters of ten students were selected and judged by a panel of good citizens and experts in the field of safety.
On May 14, in the Mayor’s Conference Room at City Hall, the judges spent a good hour selecting their top three.
The winners will be announced at a reception at the Rye Free Reading Room June 12 at 5:30 p.m.
The funds for the project came through Safe Routes to School, United Way, and State Senator Suzi Oppenheimer.
