From frozen screens to downed servers, computer malfunctions rank high on the stress level. When the technology we’ve become so dependent on doesn’t work, we panic. Fortunately, help has come to town. AAccess.net, offering complete computer care and IT services for businesses and individuals, opened this week in the Rye Mall in the storefront once occupied by Sullivan Opticians.
This is the region’s fourth AAccess.net store; others are located in New City, Larchmont, and Harrison. Rye’s location makes sense since the company founder, Ed Szamborski, is a longtime resident. He and his wife, Mary, a teacher at Rye Presbyterian Nursery School, have two children: Eddie, who’s in college, and Kara, a recent grad.
Mr. Szamborski started AAccess.net as a service business offering computer repair (view it now on this site) and installation and IT support in homes and offices. Five years ago, he decided to expand by opening retail outlets.
While the company still brings its services to customers, customers can also bring their computers to the stores. There they can choose from a varied menu, which includes desktop and laptop repairs and sales, hard drive replacement, software installation and upgrades, and more. Free loaner computers are available for customers while they wait, and there is free pick-up and delivery. Computer and accessories are also for sale.
Technicians are happy to provide a full array of additional services, such as wireless network support, server sales and support, cable and FIOS setup, and website hosting.
“We’re like your personal IT department,” says Mr. Szamborski, noting that the typical home today is like a business of the past with several computers, laptops, and smart phones. He compares the computer to a car; both need maintenance. “If you have a car for three years, you get the oil and tires changed.” Mr. Szamborski says his work requires him to be a cross between a mechanic and a doctor – tech savvy with a good bedside manner.
“Computers suffer more wear and tear than most people realize,” says Mr. Szamborski, who has seen laptops that have been spilled on, dropped, and even stepped on. And people often don’t back up their information, which leads to a lecture for customers who have lost all their data. Fortunately, AAccess.net can usually help retrieve it.
He plans to open more stores in the near future. Entrepreneurship runs in the family. He once ran his father’s jewelry manufacturing company, and his brothers own a seafood wholesale business serving top restaurants in New York City, as well as Atlantic Appliance in Mount Kisco.
AAccess.net promises prompt and quality service. The store is open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, drop by or call 479-0286.
