Right in time for Thanksgiving, downtown Rye looks merry and bright thanks to newly installed decorative lighting on Purchase Street — an initiative from the Rye Chamber of Commerce and the April May June Team of Compass Real Estate.
Light Up Rye!, as the program is called, features a combination of lit spheres and fully wrapped trees in soft white, up before your turkey hits the table. The lights are to be on display until February and be illuminated during the daytime. The fundraising effort to support this venture has been a grassroots campaign conducted through local residents and businesses, as well as on social media.
With more than 117 local businesses and families contributing to the initiative so far, April Saxe from Compass said the community has been “so generous, we have been overwhelmed with the response.” She emphasized that there is still time to support the initiative, and that all proceeds collected after the installation will go toward next year’s expanded light display.
“We think this will be a great way to make downtown Rye feel festive and warm through the holidays and into January,” Saxe said. “Rye’s downtown is a destination to many for shops and restaurants and we hope the residents and visitors will smile when they see the town sparkle.”
