The Village Green buzzed with excitement on Sunday, May 19, as 1,100 children from 475 families climbed all over a fire truck, bulldozer, police car, and a 100 percent electric ConEd truck as part of the Rye Free Reading Room’s annual Vehicle Fair.
The fair raised more than $31,000 for library programs for the whole community, according to Fair Co-Chair Sara Keeshan.
While sitting behind the steering wheel and exploring the gauges and gizmos of the many different vehicles were the main attractions, kids also loved the bounce house, face painting, crafts, carnival rides, and inflatable obstacle course. The air was filled with music and bubbles from the Bubble Bus as attendees (and their parents) perused raffle baskets, many with items donated by local shops and businesses. Food trucks offered hot dogs, lobster rolls, and Longford’s ice cream.
“The day was a big success thanks to a massive effort from many volunteers and local sponsors, including head sponsor Rye Contracting,” say co-chair Avery Bullock.
Keeshan, added, “It’s incredibly rewarding to provide an afternoon of fun for everyone.”
