The Rye Neck Middle/High School HVAC system overheated at the school on Thursday, causing a fire alarm response, according to officials.
The city of Rye and village of Mamaroneck fire departments responded to a commercial fire alarm at the school around 1:20 p.m. on March 27. Upon arrival, firefighters found the building had already been safely evacuated by school officials.
Fire officials investigated a burning odor at the joint Hornridge Road campus, which they eventually attributed to a rooftop air handler HVAC that was overheating. Fire and school officials then shut the power off, according to the Rye Fire Department.
Fire personnel worked on the school for about an hour, officials said.
The Rye Neck school district encompasses the Rye Neck section of the village of Mamaroneck and the Greenhaven section of the city of Rye.
