Rye Country Day beat Rye 6-5 in overtime on Jan. 17, thanks to two goals from freshman forward Alex Thompson, plus scores from senior Lachlan Bommer and sophomores Paul Heintz and Jacob Tucznio.

Rye Country Day led 3-0 before Rye fought back and tied the game in the final two minutes of regulation.

This game had it all: a tremendous (thoroughly frozen) crowd at the Scott Nelson Athletics Center (aka “the Scotty”), hard-hitting physical hockey, and a thrilling golden goal from RCDS to seal the victory.

RYE 9, CLARKSTOWN 2 – Senior Ryan Draddy had two goals and two assists, and sophomore Kai Brittain and junior Cody Greenhaw each scored their first career varsity goals.

The resounding win came a day after Rye lost its second game in a row, evening the Garnets’ league record at 2-2.

“We needed this one,” said coach Peter Thomas. “This is the type of hockey we know we’re capable of.”

PELHAM 3, RYE 1 – What was nailbiter for nearly three full periods changed dramatically in the final five minutes. Pelham scored twice late in the final period to break open a 1-1 tie Jan. 14 at The Ice Hutch.

Freshman Finn Draddy scored Rye’s only goal in the defeat, assisted by junior Will Weinman.

MAMARONECK 6, RYE 4 – The Tigers came out on top in a high-scoring game Jan. 10 at Playland, adding an empty-net goal with under a minute to play to win by two.

RYE 2, SUFFERN 1 – Rye’s depth was on full display against the defending state champions.

The come-from-behind victory was a thrilling, total team effort by the Garnets.

Trailing the Mounties 1-0 halfway through the final period, Rye exploded for two goals in 20 ice-shattering seconds to beat Suffern for the first time since 1992.

The first came from freshman Will Niejadlik, with assists by junior Jamie Morris and senior Alex Gordon. Seconds later, senior Tyler McDermott netted the game-winner of assists from seniors Dean Kim and Drew Dolan.

Rye’s unshakable defense and sophomore goalie Fernando Mosquera (23 saves) held on through the final five minutes of the third to secure the win.

Rye returns to Playland to host Pelham at 7:45 p.m. Jan. 29.
