The Rye boys lacrosse team won in new head coach Jeremy Guski’s debut, beating Somers 12-5 on Saturday.
Rye was in control from start to finish, leading 5-2 at halftime and 9-4 entering the fourth quarter.
It was a strong start to Guski’s tenure, who took over a team that fell in the section championship last season. The Mahopac High School graduate played lacrosse at UMass, and was the associate head coach of the boys lacrosse team at Yorktown High School before coming to Rye.
Charlie Brady led the Garnets with four goals and an assist, and fellow junior Henry Gilroy added three goals and an assist.
Senior Henry Shoemaker scored two goals and two assists, one week removed from helping the boys basketball team reach the Class AA state semifinals. His senior hoops and football teammate, Carson Miller, scored one goal and added an assist.
Sophomore Will Niejadlik, fresh off a state hockey championship, scored once, and senior Thomas Goldszer had a goal as well.
Sophomore goalie Sam LaMonte made 14 saves for the Garnets.
Next up for Rye is a game against Cold Spring Harbor at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
