John Francis Quinn Jr., fondly known as “Humphrey” to his many friends, passed away on Nov. 26, 2024, after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Rye, John was born on Oct. 10, 1940, to John and Margaret (McArdle) Quinn.

John was a proud alumnus of Resurrection Grammar School and Rye High School. After graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Navy, traveling the world and earning an honorable discharge. His dedication to community service continued as a longtime member of the Rye Volunteer Fire Department.

John was a familiar face for many years at Milton Harbor, where he docked his boat and enjoyed sailing on the sound with family and friends.

For many years, John was the owner of the Harbor Deli on Milton Road, where his friendly demeanor and commitment to quality made him a beloved figure in the neighborhood. Later in life, he worked in the transportation department of the Byram Hills School District, continuing to make a positive impact on those around him.

John was predeceased by the love of his life, Judith Griffin, whom he married in 1978 at Resurrection Church. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his brother Thomas Quinn, and his nephew Michael Donovan.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Quinn de Barros of Rye; his nieces Leah Borzoni (Steven) of Rye Brook and Dawn Gargan (Richard) of Holmes; his nephews Erick de Barros of Rye and Michael Donovan (Sherri) of Lincolndale; as well as his great-nephews and nieces Thomas, John and Quinn Borzoni, Shannon Gargan, and Katie Donovan. He will also be dearly missed by his cherished cocker spaniel, Molly-O.

John’s faith was a cornerstone of his life; he was a lifelong parishioner of Resurrection Church, where he served as an altar boy in his youth. He will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty and unwavering commitment to his family, friends and community. His memory is a blessing.

A wake was scheduled for Friday, Dec. 6 from 4-8 p.m. at Graham’s Funeral Home, Boston Post Road, Rye. A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m, at Resurrection Church, Boston Post Road, Rye, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
