Joseph Edward Scerba, Sr. , 87, of Warren, Ohio passed away peacefully on Jan. 3, 2025 surrounded by his family.
A devoted resident of Rye, Joseph dedicated more than 40 years as a volunteer fireman serving his community with steadfast commitment and pride. His selfless contributions left a lasting impact on those around him. At 18, Joseph joined the Army as a paratrooper and served in the Korean War.
In his leisure time, Joe found great joy in traveling and engaging in golf and tennis – activities that brought him happiness and connection with others. He also enjoyed his Thursday nights at the firehouse. Later in life, his greatest joy was to have his two daughters and his family by his side.
Joseph is survived by his daughters: Pamela of Clifton Park, and Elizabeth of Maricopa, Arizona. He has three grandchildren: Jospeh Scerba Arnold, Ashley Arnold, and Samantha Arnold, as well as other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Joseph Edward Scerba Jr., 16, and his wife of 60 years Anna Scerba and all this brothers and sisters.
Joe’s unwavering dedication to his community and the cherished memories he created with loved ones will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
A wake will be held on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home in Rye. A funeral mass will follow on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025 at Resurrection Church at 10 a.m. in Rye.
