Julio A. Rossi of Rye, New York, passed away peacefully on July 28 with his wife of 55 years by his side.
A beloved husband, father, and friend, Julio was a cherished family man known for his loving nature, wise counsel, and joyous sense of humor. Born on June 13, 1944, in the historic city of Montevideo, Uruguay, Julio embodied a spirit of tradition and kindness that knew no bounds.
When he was just 18, Julio emigrated to North America “with nothing but twelve dollars” in his pocket and spent a bitter winter in Montreal, Canada. During a particularly harsh snowstorm, feeling cold, tired, and down on his luck, Julio was just about ready to give up when he stopped to rest along his long walk home. Feeling a tap on his shoulder, he looked up to see that he had by chance stopped at the Consulate of Spain where he was quickly ushered in and offered a chance to warm up and have a drink. His gregarious nature won over the crowd celebrating the holidays inside, and he quickly befriended embassy officials who eventually helped him obtain U.S. citizenship and reinvigorate his American dream. Soon after, Julio went on to meet his wife Ketty (Alcivar) at a Greenwich, Connecticut, wedding and the rest was history.
Julio would go on to spend 34 fulfilling years of service at Cytec Industries in Stamford, Connecticut. His dedication to his work was paralleled only by his commitment to his colleagues, many of whom became lifelong friends. Julio’s work ethic and affable nature left an indelible mark on the company and its people, contributing to a legacy of distinction and camaraderie.
Julio is survived by his beloved wife, Ketty, with whom he built a life full of love and laughter, and created a home that was always warm and welcoming. He is also survived by his three children, Julio (Lisa), Karina, and Richard (Meghan), along with his six grandchildren, Juliana (24), Christian (18), Ava (18), Samantha (15), Colin (7), and Catherine (5). Julio’s eyes would light up with every grandchild’s giggle and cheer, and his unwavering love would create lifelong bonds and memories. These moments, simple yet profound, were among the happiest of his life.
Julio will be remembered for his loving nature, his ability to bring humor to any situation, and his wise guidance that touched the lives of so many. His absence will be deeply felt, but the memories will continue to inspire and comfort all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A wake will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1, from 4-7 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home in Rye. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Resurrection on Friday, Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. followed by interment at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
