Kevin Michael Haggerty of Naples, Florida, and formerly of Rye, New York, passed away on June 25, 2018. He was 77.
The oldest of Aileen and Arthur Haggerty’s three children, he was born December 14, 1940, and raised in Pelham, New York. He graduated from Pelham High School, where he excelled in football, basketball, and baseball, and from Manhattan College, which he attended on a basketball scholarship.
During the Vietnam War, Mr. Haggerty enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country and coached the United States Armed Forces Basketball team. He was a Captain when he was honorably discharged in 1969. That year, he went to work for Kidder, Peabody & Company as a convertible arbitrage and block trader. During his institutional trading career, he worked at several firms, and retired from Fidelity in 1997 as the Senior Vice-President in charge of the Fidelity Capital Markets institutional trading desk.
In 1965, he married Mary Jane Morell. They moved to Rye in 1978.
Kevin Haggerty loved his family, Rye, and sports. At Westchester Country Club, he was an avid golfer and paddle tennis player. He coached Babe Ruth League and was a volunteer Hockey coach, who guided many young men who went on to play in the NHL and the AHL.
In addition to his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Jane Morell Haggerty, Mr. Haggerty is survived by their four children, K.G., Kerry, Ryan (Meg), and Sean (Jen). He is also survived by ten grandchildren; his brother, Arthur Haggerty; his sister, Sheila Haggerty; his sisters-in-law, Rita Shea and Catherine Raddatz (Don), and his brother-in-law Mark Morell (Brooke).
