It is with love and gratitude that the family of Lawrence C. Foley announces his passing on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Larry lived a life full of joy, humor and loyalty.
Born in New York City on February 24, 1937, Larry was raised by his parents Steven and Helen Foley in the Yorkville neighborhood on the Upper East Side. He was the middle child of three boys. It was in this vibrant community that Larry’s love of family, sports and adventure took root.
At age 16, he met the love of his life, Mary Gilligan, at Rockaway Beach, a popular summer spot for Irish American families. They married at age 20 and quickly began their own family.
Larry and Mary raised their four children, Larry, Mary Beth, Tricia and Kerry, in Rye. They were devoted parishioners of Resurrection Church and active members of Apawamis Country Club. Larry was also a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed hockey, skiing and took a particular interest in squash, belonging to the fun-loving group known as the “S.W.A.N.S.” at Apawamis.
Professionally, Larry started his career in the data-processing division at General Motors. He later found his calling as a salesman and enjoyed a long career in the computer industry, where he eventually became the senior vice president of global sales at Computer Leasing, Inc.
Larry was a lover of real estate and eventually built the family’s dream summer home on Cape Cod. He fulfilled his childhood passion for aviation when he earned his pilot’s license in his early 40s and would often fly his beloved Bonanza plane between Westchester and the Cape.
In retirement, Larry could often be found at the local Starbucks chatting with his many friends, reading the New York Post and working on his daily Sudoku puzzles. His humor, quick wit and genuine kindness made him a fixture in the community.
Larry was a true family man. He treasured his family above all else – nothing brought him more joy than being surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary, his children, Larry (Megan) Foley, Mary Beth (Kevin) Duffy, Tricia (Tom Sullivan), Kerry (Brian) Leonard, his 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and his youngest brother, Jerry Foley. Larry is predeceased by his brother, Steve.
