As I close out eight years serving as a volunteer city councilperson, I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to engage with so many members of our wonderful community.
As I reflect upon the upcoming mayoral election, I realize that I have the unique perspective of having served with all three mayoral candidates. Two of the candidates presently serve on the council. The third, Rick McCabe, is the chair of the Rye Recreation Commission and I serve as that organization’s liaison to city council.
Having observed all the candidates, their priorities, their temperaments, their leadership styles, I believe that Rick McCabe is the mayor Rye needs now and in the future.
Rick is a political independent. He makes decisions based on what is best for the common good, not a particular faction. He is cooperative and has a wonderful ability to lower the temperature on contentious issues, rather than fanning the flames of division and discord.
Rick is hardworking and curious; he doesn’t rest his belief system on tribal, partisan dogma. And above all, he is community minded, not self-serving. Rick grew up in Rye. He is raising his family here and volunteering in myriad ways throughout our city.
Knowing the challenges and opportunities our city faces, I believe Rick McCabe is uniquely and superiorly suited to lead Rye in the years ahead.
