When people ask me what I think of the upcoming elections, I tell them that I’ll be voting for Josh Nathan and the Rye Democratic slate. Here’s why: I believe in action. I grew up in Rye and my husband and I are happily raising our two young children here. We love this community and all it offers. But we are deeply concerned about flooding. When Harrison announced the 67 Grant Ave. project along Beaver Swamp Brook, which threatened the Glen Oaks community with terrible flooding, I mobilized.
And, so did Councilmen Josh Nathan and James Ward: they went to the Harrison hearing, they hosted me and neighbors from Rye and Harrison at Josh Nathan’s home to review the project, and they helped us advocate for our concerns in Rye and in Harrison. Council candidates Marion Anderson and Amy Kesavan came to Glen Oaks to see how flooding impacts our neighborhood.
What Josh, James, Marion, and Amy understand is that with three floodplains and 14 miles of winding coastline, flooding is an issue across all of Rye, not just along the Blind Brook. They’re serious about addressing it, and they don’t just say so, they’ve taken action. Josh worked on the governor’s storm planning committee for Rye, which developed a flood mitigation blueprint and brought in a $3 million grant.
We need a mayor and council members who are already taking this work on, not candidates who just pay lip service and then privately say to me: “Honestly what do you think you can do about it? Whatever is going to happen is going to happen.”
Join me in voting for Josh Nathan for Mayor and for Marion Anderson, James Ward, and Amy Kesavan for Council. We need ballot Row A elected so we can truly combat flooding.
