On Tuesday, May 19, Rye residents will have the opportunity to vote on the Rye City School District’s proposed 2026-2027 budget and Board of Education trustee election from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the Rye Middle School gym. Early mail and absentee voting options are also available.
This year’s proposed budget reflects our continued commitment to the Rye Commitment and to providing students with a high-quality educational experience while remaining fiscally responsible. The budget is tax cap-compliant and supports an anticipated enrollment of 2,805 students. It includes a 3.08 percent budget-to-budget increase and a 2.95 percent tax levy increase, while continuing to address rising operational costs facing school districts across the state.
The proposed budget maintains all current programs, preserves small class sizes and continues to support student learning, wellness and safety. Highlights include the addition of a full-time social worker and two dedicated STEM teachers at no additional cost, expanded academic opportunities through eight high school academic teams, and continued investments in technology, security and facilities improvements.
The development of this budget reflects thoughtful, long-term planning focused on maintaining the exceptional educational opportunities our community values while responsibly managing district resources.
I encourage all eligible residents to participate in this important vote on May 19.
