Cadet Leo Matthews completed his first year at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with academic distinction. He was named to the Dean’s List for the fall and spring semesters.
In June, Matthews graduated from the Sabalauski Air Assault School program conducted by the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division at Camp Smith in Cortlandt Manor.
Last month, the Rye High School graduate attended Cadet Field Training at Camp Buckner, near West Point. The rigorous four-week program included situational instruction in infantry, armor, field artillery, and engineering. It culminated in a continuous four-day field exercise. Matthews was awarded a Recondo badge for meeting the stringent requirements of the reconnaissance/commando course.
Matthews began his academic semester this week. He plans to graduate from West Point in 2015 and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
